QUICK FACTS ON THE
CAITHNESS POWER PLANT
- The proposed power plant is located on 96 acres North of Horseblock
Road,
south of the Long Island Rail Road, and East of Old Dock Road. Between
Yaphank and Bellport.
- The proposed power plant is within miles of neighborhoods in
Yaphank, Bellport,
Medford, Gordon Heights, Patchogue, Hagerman, and Holtsville.
- Tiny particles of pollution that will be emitted from the plant
will have an impact
on air within an area several miles in circumference. This impact is
unpredictable and is mostly determined by how and where the air blows.
- The proposed plant will burn natural gas year round and have the
capacity to
burn fuel oil.
- 750,000 gallons of fuel oil will be held on the premises.
- According to the recent
Environmental Impact Study (“EIS”) published by Caithness
the plant will emit on a yearly basis:
- The plant will be built on an Empire Zone, this
land is reserved for job creating
industries near communities with high unemployment. This plant will only
create 25 permanent jobs.
- There’s information circulating that the
Caithness power plant will “clean the air.”
There isn’t a power plant in the world that can clean the air. Even the
most
state of the art power plants adds to pollution. Caithness is no
different.

dollars of “perks”; paid for by illegal surcharges, e.g:
